Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) will showcase new English Language Arts (ELA) digital content offerings, Response to Intervention tools, Common Core literature lessons, resources to support English Language Learners, and more at the annual International Reading Association (IRA) Conference, May 9-12 in New Orleans.
IRA highlights will include the launch of the newest edition of Spanish reading and language arts program Senderos ©2014. Designed for use in dual-language classrooms, Senderos enables Spanish-speaking students to master the Common Core State Standards, building upon the pedagogy of HMH’s widely adopted reading program, Journeys Common Core.
IRA will also offer a first look at Connections ©2015, a new collection of in-depth reading guides that provide rich instructional support for 100 HMH literary titles. Drawing upon a legacy going back nearly two centuries, HMH combines high-quality fiction and informational texts with instructional expertise to support teachers and engage students. |

Visitors to booth #1951 can participate in a lively series of demos, professional development sessions, and activities, including:
- Photo Booth: To celebrate the dedicated teachers in attendance, HMH will feature a photo booth that captures the spirit of the company’s IRA theme - “I teach kids to read. What’s your super power?” Attendees can grab a super hero prop and join the fun.
- Product Showcase: Guests will explore innovative ELA programs offering comprehensive digital paths that personalize learning, including Journeys Common Core and Collections, HMH’s dynamic new ELA program for grades 6-12, as well as myWriteSmart, a unique collaborative writing tool built into both programs. Earobics, HMH’s multisensory, digital intervention program providing targeted support to close literacy gaps, will also be available for demo.
- Author Talks: Ten literacy experts, including three Past Presidents of IRA, will provide free professional development sessions in the HMH booth over three days. A special presentation on Saturday, May 10 at 2:30 p.m. in Product Pavilion 2 will feature HMH program author Carol Jago and Jacqueline Davies, author of The Lemonade War and its popular companion books, in a discussion of close reading strategies.
- Giveaways: In-booth giveaways throughout the weekend will include t-shirts, Super Power buttons and window decals, and limited-time discount codes.
- Professional Development: Visit Heinemann, HMH’s PD arm, at Booth #1959 to hear from leading teaching experts and explore resources.
