Texas State Board of Education Approves Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Into Reading, ¡Arriba la Lectura! and Into Literature for Grades K-8

Fully integrated literacy solutions empower teachers, drive growth and improve student outcomes

BOSTON – Learning company Houghton Mifflin Harcourt today announced that the Texas State Board of Education has approved new K-8 English Language Arts & Reading and Spanish Language Arts & Reading programs, HMH Into Reading Texas, HMH ¡Arriba la Lectura! Texas and HMH Into Literature Texas ©2020, giving schools the opportunity to purchase and implement the curriculum in K-8 classrooms statewide. These programs, part of HMH’s Into Learning series, provide a comprehensive suite of flexible literacy solutions designed to support teachers as they grow learners into strong readers, confident communicators and critical thinkers.

Fully aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), HMH’s literacy programs offer authentic, culturally relevant literature that resonates with children and inclusive dual-language instruction options, creating an equitable set of solutions designed to help all students thrive. Intuitive digital tools and blended professional learning opportunities are designed to empower teachers, facilitate standards-aligned instruction, and support delivery of differentiated instruction for English learners and advanced or struggling students.

Authors and consultants included past presidents of the National Council of Teachers of English Kylene Beers, Ed.D., and Carol Jago, as well as Dr. Elena Izquierdo, associate professor of dual language education, biliteracy and ELL education at the University of Texas, El Paso.

The program includes popular Rigby leveled readers and dual-language and biliteracy program offerings featuring authentic Spanish language text selections.  

  • HMH Into Literature Texas – Grades 6–8: HMH Into Literature™ Texas ©2020 is an English Language Arts and Literature program for advancing literacy and language skills for success in college, work and life. A full range of embedded assessments, reporting, analytics and grade-level measures offer teachers and administrators evaluation of student growth as well as year-long progress against core standards.

  • HMH ¡Arriba la Lectura! Texas – K–5: Used by itself or paired with Into Reading Texas in a dual language classroom, HMH ¡Arriba la Lectura! ©2020 is a comprehensive Spanish literacy program built with a focus on the unique needs of students learning to read and write in Spanish within a workshop model. The program includes features just for Spanish to ensure that teachers are supported in dual language settings and that students have access to enrichment lessons in Spanish academic language.
