Indicators are exceptionally useful chemicals that “indicate” the presence or absence of a substance or give us a quick check on the strength of a solution—does one exist, and how strong is it? Sometimes, you can create your own indicators using recipes like those below.

Download the following free do-it-yourself recipes, which are teacher created and appropriate for use by students in Grades 6–12. Use them in the science classroom as you explore concepts including the properties of matter, polymerization, and chemical changes.
