Expertise: Understanding Trauma
Event
Tyrone C. Howard
Productive change occurs through courageous conversations that provide opportunities for self-reflection and insight into a wide range of perspectives to examine the most critical issues affecting your students. As Texas moves towards addressing the equity gap in student achievement, school leaders are examining teacher performance, student learning and student engagement as measures of effective teaching. Districts are in need of strategies that are viable and evidenced-based to provide teachers with the tools to meet student needs. This session will put the spotlight on those most vulnerable populations by exploring issues of race, culture, implicit bias, and trauma to create a path to equity that is built on understanding and empathy.
